FIFA 23 has another edition that you should avoid

FIFA 23 should again add some innovations to the well-known formula of EA’s successful table football game. Not so on the Nintendo Switch, however, as in the past few times, the platform has to do without many of the new gameplay mechanics and instead comes in a slimmed-down form with the same legacy modes as last year.

Legacy Edition for Switch is missing a lot

FIFA fans already know the game, the switch has to do without many of the innovations of the current title because the hybrid console does not meet the technical requirements. Instead, there is a Legacy Edition again this time, which has to do without various features. These new features for PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S are missing from the Switch version:

  • hypermotion2
  • Crossplay for 1vs1 modes
  • New risk-versus-success shooting mechanic
  • revised chemistry system for FUT in Ultimate Teame mode
  • new mode FUT Moments

You can take a look at the new features in the Reveal trailer:

Nintendo fans don’t go away empty-handed: Fortunately, a few of the innovations from FIFA 23 still make it into the Legacy Edition. On the Nintendo eShop page states that the game will have a “revised visual identity and a refreshed broadcast overlay”. The latest kits, clubs and squads from some of the world’s top leagues are also back, as are new stadiums and, for the first time, women’s club teams.

The FIFA 23 Legacy Edition will have the following game modes at launch:

  • kicking off
  • career mode
  • Tournaments – Licensed and Proprietary, including UEFA Champions League
  • Women’s International Cup
  • skill games
  • online seasons
  • Online Friendlies
  • Local Seasons

And for FIFA Ultimate Team:

  • managerial duties
  • Single player & online seasons, tournaments and draft
  • Online Singles Matches
  • Squad Building Challenges

The future of the FIFA series is still open

Especially with the new crossplay, the switch is missing an important function, even if there are limitations on other platforms. How exactly the future of the series on Switch and Co. looks like is currently not clear, after all, FIFA 23 will be the last FIFA part of EA. Of course, it shouldn’t mean that it’s out of line, because it will continue under the name EA Sports FC and will also retain many of the licenses.

First of all, we still have FIFA 23 on September 30, 2022, which will be released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Google Stadia and as a Legacy Edition for Nintendo Switch.

What do you think of the Legacy Edition for Switch? Are you bothered by the missing innovations?
