FIFA 23: Russian teams and the national team have no place in the game

Russian club teams as well as the Russian national team are not represented in FIFA 23, as Electronic Arts has confirmed to Eurogamer.

This is not entirely surprising as the teams had already been removed in FIFA 22 after the Russian attack on Ukraine. In FIFA 23, they aren’t there right from the start.

Out of solidarity with Ukraine

“EA Sports stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and, like so many voices in the world of football, calls for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine,” it said in a statement.

“In agreement with our partners at FIFA and UEFA, EA Sports will not be adding the Russian national team or Russian clubs to FIFA 23.”

Electronic Arts announced in March that it would stop selling all games and content in Russia and Belarus. This was followed by the banning of Russian teams and the discontinuation of offering Russia-related maps in Ultimate Team.

FIFA 23 will be released on September 30, 2022 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Google Stadia.
