Stray: Real cats love the stray adventure, fans show on Twitter

Stray: Cyberpunk Cat Adventures coming to Steam in July

from Sarah Petzold
Stray has quickly won the hearts of the gaming community – and apparently also those of her cats. Because the four-legged roommates are really into their digital alter ego, as various proof videos on Twitter show.

Stray, the recently released indie adventure with a cyberpunk setting, fascinates the gaming community – and it seems that it’s not just made up of people lately. Because, as various Stray fans have noticed, their four-legged, feline roommates are also enthusiastic about the adventures of the stray cat that is looking for its way home.

Twitter account dedicated entirely to cats watching Stray

Various Stray fans on Twitter show what the whole thing looks like in reality. The Twitter account @CatsWatchStray collects suitable videos and diligently retweets them. Anyone who tags @CatsWatchingStray can expect such a retweet. Within two days of Stray’s release the account has already amassed more than 11,000 followers and retweeted 230 videos and pictures of cats watching the stray cat in Stray on her adventures.

The videos show various different reactions of the animals to what is happening on the screen. Some cats stare spellbound at the screen, while others try to interact directly with the digital four-legged friend: they walk around in front of the display, slap their paws against the display or otherwise try to make contact with the cat on the screen. Some real cats also seem to be suspicious of all the hustle and bustle: They approach the stray rather hesitantly and show their discomfort with a hump.

The reason that real cats are obviously absolutely fascinated by their virtual counterparts is probably the very detailed and realistic recreation of Stray’s main character. The developers are big cat fans themselves and own cats themselves, so they put a lot of effort into faithfully replicating the look and behavior of the cat in the game.

Stray: Gaming Hammer or Katzenjammer?

Stray himself, meanwhile, delights fans and critics alike. The game not only gets excellent ratings on Steam and Metacritic, but has also become an absolute top seller. The number of players went through the roof right after the release on Valve’s platform and is another indication of the adventure’s success.
