Assassin’s Creed Project Red is really supposed to be set in Asia, but not be a separate game

There is already an Assassin’s Creed China as a sidescroller. Maybe Ubisoft will take up the setting again or finally focus on Japan?

Ubisoft is rumored to be working on some Assassin’s Creed projects. While Infinity has at least been confirmed, Ubisoft is holding back on AC Rift, AC Nexus and Project Red. If the last name doesn’t mean anything to you now, that’s no wonder, since it only appeared now in connection with an Asian setting by Kotaku and the Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier.

Project Red is said to stand for an Assassin’s Creed in Asia

There have been rumors about an Assassin’s Creed in Japan in the past. Most recently, Giant Bomb journalist Jeff Grubb took up the issue and said that a Assassin’s Creed in Japan be in the works.

Now, a few days later, wants too kotaku learned through two sources that there was something to it. At least when it comes to Asia as the overarching setting. It was not said whether we can explicitly count on Japan. But for the fact that Ubisoft has been discussing internally for a long time to play Assassin’s Creed in an Asian country.

Project Red is reportedly not a standalone game, but part of Infinity

Project Red is not supposed to be a standalone game. Instead, it should be part of Assassin’s Creed Infinity, according to Jason Schreier on Twitter. He was responding to the Kotaku report, in which Project Red was not clearly titled as a game or Infinity content. In detail he said that “Infinity will be a platform for announced AC games, including Red”.

What is AC Infinity? The project has been confirmed by Ubisoft, but there is not much information about it yet. But we can imagine it as a kind of live service project that should unite several assassins and settings. If you want to know more, take a look at our overview of AC Infinity:

Jason Schreier in particular is considered to be well connected in the industry, which is why the rumors could well be true. Nevertheless, this is only unconfirmed information. We will therefore ask Ubisoft what exactly Project Red is all about.

Has AC Rift been postponed?

It will take a while until AC Infinity, which is why all eyes are on AC Rift, or rather were. Because after Ubisoft published your annual report for the first quarter of 2022 yesterday, it could be that the game with Basim was postponed internally.

The report states that “a smaller, unannounced premium game” that was supposed to be released in 2022/2023 has been pushed back to 2023/2024. AC Rift could definitely fit here, but we don’t know for sure. We will probably be smarter on September 10th when Ubisoft presents news about its games at a forward event.
