The popular voice chat service discord is now also finding its way onto the Xbox console. However, the program used primarily in the gaming sector will not in the form of an app come to the console, but must be used in a roundabout way.
Voice chats must first be started on your own smartphone and then via a link sent to the console will. There is no more direct way via the console itself, so you still need to have the Discord app installed on your phone.
Noisy Microsoft it should be possible to easily switch back and forth between the integrated voice chats and Discord on the Xbox consoles. The voice chat feature can be found in the console settings under “Parties & Chats”. There will be a QR code generatedwhich allows linking the Xbox and Discord app.
A new option to join on Xbox will then appear in the Discord mobile app. In addition, the Xbox app on smartphone needed to transfer voice chat from Discord to console.
The whole thing works on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, but is currently only for Xbox Insider available. In the near future, Microsoft wants to introduce the feature for all users, when exactly is not yet known.
In 2021, there were reportedly talks between Microsoft and Discord for a Takeover of the app. These should, however failed be, Discord declined the offer and remained independent. Discord has had a partnership with Microsoft’s competitor Sony to integrate voice chat since March.
