Computers with Windows 11 can obtain a new optional update via the PC settings. Patch KB5015882 brings the build number to 22000.829 and has some new features on board. Typically, some bug fixes are also included and Microsoft makes minor improvements with changes.
As a highlight of KB5015882, Microsoft names a new option that allows more direct upgrades to the current Windows 11 version. When a compatible device starts up with Windows for the first time, the option to update is offered immediately after booting. In addition, urgent notifications can now also be displayed when you are in Focus Assist mode (equivalent to a “do not disturb” function).
Before patch KB5015882 was installed, there were bugs in the file explorer, among other things. This could get stuck when pressing media keys like play and pause on certain keyboards. The same could happen if you call up the context menu of the start menu (right click on the start button or Win+X) while Explorer is active. Hovering the mouse pointer over the taskbar search bar resulted in a black screen that would not close. Then, ironically, there was a bug that prevented troubleshooting tools from working.
There were other bugs when many processes accessed a file. Microsoft optimizes the load for correspondingly high “input/output operations per second” (IOPS) scenarios. After the May patchday, certain devices on domains could also cause authentication failures.
For more changes see Microsoft patch log. The installation is started manually in the settings under Windows Update. Alternatively, use the installer in the Update Catalog.
