Streaming services with ads and only on one device …

Background: streaming services

Calendar week 29 was hot. In some regions of the world it is even extremely hot. While the PCGH editorial team was finishing issue 09/2022, the thermometer climbed above the 37-degree mark all around – Celsius, not Fahrenheit. Apart from that, there were few hot topics. The developments on the market for streaming providers are something that has by no means left people cold. Netflix, Disney Plus and the like have long since established themselves, but the growing competition is not without consequences. The industry pioneer Netflix is planning to take several measures to counteract the dwindling number of users and thus falling profits (not losses). Measure #1 consists of allowing only one end device in the basic tariff. Measure #2 is another tariff, which should be (partially) financed by advertising. Both continue to heat up the summer-stricken spirits, but could still set a precedent for other video streaming services. You can read bluntly what the PCGH editors have to say about this in the picture gallery. And what do you think, dear readers? Discuss with us!
