George RR Martin: “Westeros is no more misogynistic than the real world”
Game of Thrones will soon have a new spin-off, House of the Dragon. So far we’ve seen a few trailers for the new series, but not everyone was particularly enthusiastic about them. Some fans have complained about explicitly misogynist topics being addressed in the new show. For example, it is probably quite difficult for women to gain dominance.
House of the Dragon could also be found in a history book
However, author George RR Martin explained that the new spin-off’s plot is nothing that couldn’t be found in a history book. Specifically when asked why Westeros was so vehemently opposed to a female queen, George RR Martin replied now at the recent Comic-Con:
“I take inspiration from the story, and then I take elements from the story and crank it up to 11. Game of Thrones, as a lot of people have noticed, is very loosely based on the Wars of the Roses. House of the Dragon is based on an earlier period in the story called The Anarchy… I don’t think Westeros is particularly misogynistic than real life and what we call history.”
House of the Dragon is scheduled to be released on August 21st this year. In addition to the new series, there are currently several other Game of Thrones spin-offs in the works, such as a show about Jon Snow. There is no more detailed information about the new offshoots, but at least the script is currently being written.
