If you are currently in Stray sneaking through the cyberpunk city with the cute cat, you’ve probably already wondered what the script of the robot civilization is all about. As in many other games, Stray was designed with its own alphabet to separate the world from ours. If you were wondering whether there was a real language behind the characters: Yes, most words and sentences can actually be translated in a meaningful way.

Here’s how you can read the writing in Stray

Hence the information: Josh Wirtanen cracked the code from the side Half Glass Gaming. However, behind the language of Stray is not an extremely complex system. Instead, it is a substitution cipher in which one symbol of the script corresponds to one letter of the Latin alphabet. With the following picture you can now translate the many signs and designations yourself:

How was the code solved? When you start a new chapter in Stray, the title of the section appears with a subtitle in our language. In this way, Wirtanen was able to collect enough data to ultimately translate the entire language. In his article you will find a lot of translations like “Droids News” on a newspaper or “Best Bag” on a bag. But some translations also make less sense, because apparently those responsible did not expect their fictional alphabet to be translated by a fan.

More news about Stray:

The city also has an equivalent in reality: Blue Twelve Studio, the development team behind Stray, also revealed the inspiration for Stray’s cyberpunk city. You may have heard of Kawloon Wall City, which was part of Hong Kong. The place that used to have its own laws no longer exists. But Kawloon Wall City lives in games like Stray, Shenmue 2 or Final Fantasy 7 further.

Did you think the script translates to Stray?
