Over time, a lot of different license models have accumulated that affect downloads on the Xbox: Games With Gold, installations of disc versions, free trial versions over the weekend, Game Pass, streaming, family sharing. Gamers who haven’t turned on their Xbox for a week or two are probably more likely to wonder which installed games they can actually launch once they go back online on their console.

This guesswork will soon be a thing of the past, Microsoft is currently testing signs that reveal at first glance whether a game can be run with the registered account. The feature is currently only available in the update preview, so it is not yet available for everyone.

The hints are simple and make it immediately clear that you do not have the license for a downloaded game. You will not be told which license this restriction is associated with, but at least you will find out immediately that a title would not start.

There is one more exception: If you installed games from a disc, a special icon will indicate that you must first place the physical copy in your Xbox drive.

Not the only innovation Xbox fans can look forward to

The next big update of the Xbox operating software should change a lot. A few days ago we already reported on the integration of Discord Voice, which is still cumbersome, but gives you a higher voice quality and enables simpler communication with PC players:

This is how you get into the preview program

Like the other two updates, you’ll only see the warning labels if you’re subscribed to the Xbox Insider Hub alpha channel. This is only open to long-time Xbox fans. You can check if you are eligible for the preview update here:

If you belong to the select group of fans, you can look forward to a full update with great improvements. If a completely bug-free user interface is important to you, you’ll have to wait a while. It usually takes a few weeks or even months before new features are promoted from alpha status to a ring with more stable updates and then made available to the general public.

Which of the three big changes are you looking forward to the most?
