Return to Monkey Island: speculation about the release date

from Thilo Bayer
According to the publisher of Return to Monkey Island, there will be a lot of news on Steam and the Nintendo Store in August, which leads to speculation about the release date.

The classic point-and-click adventure Return to Monkey Island by developer legend Ron Gilbert does not yet have a release month – but it should be released in 2022. So it’s about time that there was more information from August and that’s what the publisher Devolver Digital is promising.

Monkey “3”: release date, GoG, German voice output?

in one Tweet you sharethat there will be “lots of fun news about Return to Monkey Island” next month, which is August. So you should use the wish list function of Steam or Nintendo Switch, “to get all updates about the release”. The ambiguous statement about the release is interpreted by some Twitter users in such a way that the adventure gets a final release date. On the other hand, the editors consider the fact that Return to Monkey Island will be released in August, as some hope, to be too optimistic.

Although the games fair Gamescom takes place in August, a presence of Devolver Digital in Cologne is almost impossible. The Devolver show also took place in June, so there shouldn’t be a new edition in August. So it will come down to Monkey Island specific news snippets and traditionally that could include the announcement of the release date. Due to the many shifts in PC games, Return to Monkey Island has a good chance in the Christmas season if the game quality is high.

Lead developer Ron Gilbert and Guybrush voice Dominic Armato give no indication on Twitter what news will be announced. Gilbert comments the announcement with the succinct saying: “What!?! There’s a new Monkey Island! I have to put it on the wish list!”. He also provides a “concrete” answer to the question of what date the game will be released: “Flamber, the 37th”. It should be exciting to see whether the announcements also relate to a possible German voice output. Armato, on the other hand, claimsthat he does not know what is proclaimed. This leads to speculation in the comments that versions for the PS4 or PS5 will also be announced in August. Other users are wondering if Return to Monkey Island might appears on GoG.
