Slap at the Oscars: Now Will Smith speaks!

the Academy Awards 2022 will be remembered in particular for a big scandal. Many will still remember the images of Will Smith, who Chris Rock slapped her face that night on stage. In addition to numerous discussions about the campaign and a seemingly endless amount of memes, the first statements by Chris Rock about the slap in the face followed shortly after the event. Will Smith apologized via Instagram the day after the event. Smith has now commented on the action in a video message and apologized again to Chris Rock.

What happened?

Rock had bald headed on stage about JadaSmith, Will Smith’s wife, and compared her to GI Jane. Smith didn’t like this at all, after all, his wife’s bald head is due to an illness. Shortly after the spell, Rock received one slap by Smith, who had just entered the stage. A brief exchange of words ensued, in which Smtih warned Chris Rock not to mention his wife’s name. In the apology on Instagram the following day, Smith dismissed his own behavior as unacceptable.

The current statement

In his current statement, Will Smith answers numerous questions about the scandal and his subsequent behavior. For example, when asked why he didn’t apologize to Chris Rock directly on stage, he replies: “It was all foggy. It’s all very foggy. I got in touch with Chris and he said he wasn’t ready to talk to me and if he is then he will get back to me. So I hereby tell you that I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable. And I’m here whenever you want to talk about it.“
