Due to some Guardians being just mean, all players in Destiny 2 are now unable to chat
Some Guardians in Destiny 2 are constantly finding ways to sabotage or hack players. This time a trick was used whereby one using Bungie’s proprietary text chat could simply kick other Guardians out of the game.
What happened over the weekend? On the weekend of 29.07 – 31.07 Destiny 2 was in a state of chaos. Players were able to kick other Guardians out of the game using text chat. Many use this to gain a mean advantage in PvP.
This was a ruse by Guardians overloading an opponent’s text chat with copy-paste messages. The chat became so overloaded, which ended with the affected player’s program crashing. Bungie noticed this and temporarily deactivated text chat on all platforms.
Bungie puts a stop to text chat
Guardians could help themselves: When this trick got around players tried to help themselves. In order not to become a victim of such a spam attack, the community advised to disable the chat manually in the settings.
Despite this, other crooks rampaged around the Destiny 2 servers, maltreating players who were unaware of the fix. As a result, Bungie was forced to disable text chat entirely to investigate the issue further.
How long will text chat be disabled? It is not yet clear when the chat can go online again without complications. As this is potentially a more complicated issue, Bungie may need to tinker for a while to fix it.
Guardians either have to switch to other platforms like Discord or the intriguing voice chat if they want to communicate. It remains to be seen if and when the players will be able to happily hit the keys again.
