Fans angry: In FIFA 23 you can change Jürgen Klopp's clothes, but the most important wishes are missing

The career mode for FIFA 23 was introduced. But for many fans, the innovations left a lot to be desired.

Career mode is a classic installment in the FIFA franchise that has been perhaps the game’s most important offline mode for years. This will also be the case with the FIFA 23 release.

In the career you take over a club of your choice or simply create a completely new club yourself. From there, you’ll manage the behind-the-scenes activities, from player transfers and line-ups to developing talent and winning titles.

In addition, you have a look at the finances, contract status and training sessions in your club.

On August 1st, 2022, the innovations for the career mode in FIFA 23 were presented. However, there are some players in the community who were hoping for more than what was presented.

FIFA 23: Career mode innovations disappoint some players

What’s new? The most noticeable change in the FIFA 23 coaching career is that you can now use real coaches – like Jürgen Klopp, Antonio Conte, Guardiola and Co. All authentic coaches that are in the game should also be available.

You are not tied to their real club, but you can also let Guardiola train with VfB Oldenburg, for example, if you feel like it.

You can also change the outfits of the trainers. So if you want to put Jurgen Klopp in a new shirt, or think Thomas Tuchel should wear more sunglasses, that’s also possible.

The trainers don’t seem to have any special skills or anything like that.

In addition to the trainers, there are a number of new features, such as playable highlights, a new menu or the “Transfer Analyst” who evaluates your deals.

A closer look at the innovations can be found here in the video:

However, these innovations could not convince all fans. If you look at the FIFA subreddit or the comments on the career mode trailer on YouTube, you will mostly find voices that would have liked different or more features.

Among other things, there is criticism that many of the innovations are more of a cosmetic nature – such as the new cutscenes or ultimately the possibility of using real trainer avatars.

In terms of play, something changes in the player career, where there are now different personality types. In the coaching career, on the other hand, much remains the same.

  • “I can’t help but view these changes as ultimately insignificant. And that’s on the condition that they all make it to publication without errors,” says user “philfycasual” (via reddit).
  • “My god, I just want a really deep and fun career mode in FIFA for once. I don’t need full FM, but it’s ridiculous how lame this mode has become. Yes, it’s fun just jumping to the highlights, especially in player career mode, and yes, having the best managers (at least the ones from PL or big clubs) is nice, but it’s nothing special,” says user FelixSmith1894 ( via reddit).
  • “There are so many things that the community has asked for over the years that they could implement but never do. Career stats, an expanded youth academy, a better transfer system. All of that would be very exciting for career mode players and instead we’re getting a new menu,” criticized user scamden (via reddit).
  • “An expanded youth academy that actually plays matches, or the ability to manage a B team and send young players there (like Barcelona B, Bayern Munich II, etc.) would be absolutely awesome,” adds user zrizzoz (via reddit).
  • “I just want to see a player’s stats during his time at my club, not just season stats. I’ve had players at clubs for more than 6 years, I want to see their total goals, assists, etc before I sell them,” suggests user JayCleaton (via reddit).

Users on YouTube also comment that the changes are nice, but nothing groundbreaking. A user says that the changes would come across more like “patches than innovations” (via YouTube).

Other suggestions are coming up in the comments that would boost realism in career mode. Such as recurring injuries if you train players wrong, tougher contract negotiations – no matter what you offer, financial fair play or angry fans who leave the stadium just before the end if you play badly.

Instead, you have now got the new menu or something similar. Many fans apparently want more drastic, meaningful innovations in career mode – so that it feels more like real football.

What do you think of the innovations? Did they meet your expectations? Or would you also wish for something else? What features should career mode have for you? Tell us in the comments.

New skill moves are expected to be among the new features for FIFA 23. Fans have already discovered one in the trailer – and the skill move looks really strong.
