Logitech: Cloud-based handheld to come in 2022

The sales of the Nintendo Switch are through the roof, and the SteamDeck is also very popular. Now Logitech also seems to want a piece of the worthwhile handheld cake.

With the Switch, Nintendo is earning a fortune: Around 100 million units have already been sold worldwide since the market launch on March 3, 2017 – not even a hardware update was necessary for this, which die-hard fans are longing for, however.

Valve can also score with the SteamDeck, being able to play PC games on the go also seems to strike a chord with many gamers. Now Logitech is also announcing a handheld console, which should see the light of day this year – but that only works with the help of the powerful Chinese company Tencent, which meanwhile has a finger in the pie almost everywhere.

Technical equipment hardly plays a role

Unlike the competition, however, Logitech is taking a different approach with the newly announced hardware. Because the handheld does not require any technically great equipment, instead all games are streamed from a cloud. Services like Nvidia GeForce Now or Xbox Cloud Gaming show that this is already possible without any problems.

The Chinese entertainment giant takes care of the operating system, while the hardware specialists at Logitech take care of what they do best. There are no specifications, pictures or further information about the new handheld at this point in time, so Logitech has to hurry.

Because the device should end up on store shelves this year. You certainly don’t want to miss out on the rewarding Christmas business. It remains to be seen whether the handheld will remain a castle in the clouds or whether it will really succeed in digging the water out of Big N.
