Poll: Do you buy your games digitally, physically, or both?

Digital game purchases are now more popular than ever. Where loud a Nielson report 2018 While 66% of console gamers still preferred physical games to digital versions, this ratio has not only tilted in the meantime, but has even slipped further towards digital codes this year.

That’s not really surprising, after all, the ongoing corona pandemic and digital offers like Game Pass or PS Plus mean that we don’t necessarily go out to buy games in stores as often – and there are even special editions like Collector’s Editions now often only with a download code for the game.

Accordingly, we from the GamePro community now want to know whether your purchasing behavior has also changed and what are the reasons for this.

Digital, physical or mixed?

A new quarterly report from Sony proves that at least most PlayStation players currently prefer to buy their titles digitally. A full 79% of purchases in the first quarter of 2022 were digital codes for games. That’s quite a jump compared to 2021, when it was just 66% of purchases.

In the future, this number could even increase, after all, Sony wants to launch a loyalty program with PlayStation Stars later this year, with which players can earn PSN credit – which in turn could then be spent on digital purchases.
