The Forest Cathedral: Psychological thriller based on true story

Coming to Xbox Series X|S this fall, players will follow a biologist to a remote island in psychological thriller The Forest Cathedral.

Indie publisher Whitethorn Games has announced the fall release of first-person psychological thriller The Forest Cathedral on Xbox Series X|S and PC.

The game is a dramatic reimagining of the events leading up to the true story of the 1962 environmental book, Silent Spring.

Developed by Brian Wilson, The Forest Cathedral is a unique real-life interpretation of the events surrounding scientist Rachel Carson’s investigation into the harmful pesticide DDT.

Set in a sprawling and animated forest on a remote island, players take on the role of Rachel, who has taken a job as a field research biologist. As she completes her weekly chores, she quickly learns that things are not what they seem.

Players will gradually uncover the horrific effects of the pesticide, using advanced environmental technology to solve puzzles that weave 3D exploration and 2D platforming.

What secrets will Rachel discover on this island? Many will try to silence them, but somehow the truth must come out.

dr Matthew White, CEO of Whitethorn Games said: “Games like The Forest Cathedral don’t come around very often. The mix of 2D and 3D gameplay and the fact that it’s based on a true story makes it truly unique. We are thrilled to be a part of it and the fact that our own Brian Wilson is developing the game makes it even more exciting!”

“The story of Silent Spring is historically and scientifically significant. I hope my interpretation of the events that preceded her will draw more attention to the important work of Rachel Carson while providing a unique experience that people will remember,” said Brian Wilson, developer of The Forest Cathedral.

The main features of the Forest Cathedral are:

  • Hey, Little Man: Switch controls between Rachel Carson in the 3D world and Little Man in the 2D world of her advanced environmental scanners to solve puzzles and platforming challenges
  • Nature in Peril: Explore a carefully crafted, forested island teeming with trees, animals, fish, and insects, all affected by the dangerous effects of DDT.
  • The Sound of Silence: The game features a fully voiced narrative that draws the player into the harrowing story of the attempt to silence Rachel Carson, set to an enchanting original soundtrack.
