According to rumors, Blizzard and NetEase have set up a joint, previously secret WoW spinoff. Neptune was supposed to be a mobile MMO.

According to a report by the news site Bloomberg Blizzard has one World of Warcraft spin-off MMO set. The title was supposed to appear as a mobile game in cooperation with NetEase and had reportedly been in development for three years.
The game, which has since been discontinued, carried the internally Codenamed “Neptune” and should be set in the same universe as World of Warcraft. Instead of a mobile adaptation of the main game, it was intended as an offshoot set in a different time period.
According to the report, Disagreements over financial terms of the cooperation the reason for the hiring. However, a spokesman for Activision denied that this was the case shortly after the release. Relations with NetEase are still good and there are said to have been no disputes.
NetEase has not yet made any further comments. The mobile publisher has probably dissolved the team responsible for Neptune, consisting of more than 100 developers. So far, the Chinese company has been responsible for the release of World of Warcraft and other Blizzard games in China and has also been involved in the development of the recently released one Diablo Immortal involved.
Back in May, Blizzard introduced another mobile game set in the Warcraft universe. That Strategy game “Warcraft Arclight Rumble” met with little approval from the community and does not yet have an official release date. The next expansion for World of Warcraft called “Dragonflight” will be released in December of this year.
