After almost 30 years, “Koch Media” has come to an end. The Austrian publisher will trade as “Plaion” with immediate effect and will discard the previous name and logo. As “GamesIndustry.biz” reports, at first they only wanted to make the logo more contemporary. However, this resulted in a complete renaming of the group of companies.

“The more we thought about it, the more we wanted to do it,” says Managing Director Klemens Kundratitz in an interview with the site: “[Der neue Name] is more effective, has an external message, but is also an internal message for our employees.”

The company’s name is intended to make a stronger international impression than “Koch Media”. Since the takeover by the Embracer Group in 2018, the company has evolved from a European-focused distributor to a global company. “Plaion” should take this into account.

In addition, the previous name was difficult for some people to pronounce. The term “Kotsch Media”, which is also often used internally, was one of the more flattering ways of speaking.

Parent company Embracer is said to have played no role in the renaming. The group was informed about the new name. Apart from that they would have information about it though “just preserved like everyone else.”

In addition to the new company name, there is also a new logo, as mentioned. The stylized green “P” is said to be based on a play button found on various controllers. This is intended to emphasize that “Plaion” is primarily a games company. The group includes “Plaion Pictures”, a film distributor previously known as “Koch Films”.

Looking to the future, Kundratitz says: “[…] We have ambitions to continue growing on a global scale, both on the content and sales side, and to diversify into different forms of entertainment. We are ready to give ourselves a new look and style and start a new chapter.
