Streamer Takes Twitch in Bikini – Says it annoys her how companies use attractive women, but benefits from it

Streamer Kaitlyn “Amouranth” Siragusa has become the biggest influencer on the streaming platform Twitch. She achieved that in a bikini, as she now tells in an interview. It wasn’t her plan, but the opportunity was too good to pass up. Amouranth explains: Companies use attractive women for their purposes. It doesn’t suit her, but she decided to use it to her advantage.

How successful is Amouranth on Twitch?

Amouranth is among streamers who have been banned from the Twitch platform for a while when she overdid it:

This is what the streamers say about their success: In an interview with the site Refinery29 Amouranth explains how she became successful. Because she hadn’t really planned to start out as a “bikini streamer”. That only came with time.

At the beginning of her career on Twitch, she still showed cosplay and focused more on artistic streams. But over time, that changed and her content became more sexually charged. She only followed a trend that she could observe at the time.

She explains.

I never planned this. But the opportunity was pretty good and a lot of girls started doing it, so I was like, wow, I could do that too!

As Amouranth began showing up in bikinis and coining the so-called “hot tub” on Twitch, their streams became more successful and profitable:

It was easy to tell that it was working for me because my viewership shot up from 4,000 viewers to over 10,000, sometimes 20,000 or 30,000.

Here’s how it affected her viewership:

• In 2018 and 2019, the streamer had a fairly constant average of 2,000 viewers – although she was already on the air for 4,000 hours a year.
• In 2020, Amouranth only had an average of 3,032 viewers.
• In 2021, when she switched to bikinis, her viewership rose to 9,700.

Breakthrough came when Twitch allowed “to be sexy in the eyes of others”

How does Twitch see this? For a while it was unclear whether Twitch would allow this trend towards bikini streams or would crack down on it. Ultimately, Twitch 2021 decided to make this statement (via twitch):

While we have policies against sexually explicit content, being perceived as sexy by others is not against our rules, and Twitch will not enforce any action against women or anyone on the platform who are perceived as attractive.

How does Amouranth see the criticism? In response to the criticism of her videos that she would sexualize herself and only satisfy the base needs of men and take advantage of them, Amouranth says: These are prejudices from very specific viewers.

These people should become less sensitive to the human body, especially the female:

If they just got used to seeing girls in bikinis, maybe they would stop freaking out or acting weird. I think: This is my body. I am a human. You have a body too. Let’s all get on with it and move on.

From Amouranth’s point of view, she’s just playing by the rules of the system and using them to her advantage:

I don’t care because I look at the world and that’s the way it is. Companies use attractive women to attract customers and to be remembered. I find that annoying, but that’s the way the world is and instead of getting bitter about it, I’ve decided to take advantage of it.
