Gamers Planned August Boycott of Apex Legends Because Allegedly Nothing Works – But It's Running Great On Steam

Some players called for a boycott of Apex Legends in August. Apparently nobody wants to take part in the boycott. Player counts on Steam continue to be stellar and Apex is one of the top games on the platform.

What should the boycott look like? As #NoApexAugust previously suggested, participants in the August boycott should not play Apex Legends. The hashtag spread especially on Reddit and Twitter.

Why did the users call for a boycott? Some players were so frustrated with Apex Legends that they boycotted it to emphasize their complaints about bugs or other technical issues.

From August 9th, Apex Legend will start the new season with “Hunted”. Here you can see the launch trailer:

“No Apex August” more like “More Apex August”

  • @alphaINTEL: “Play Apex if you want to play Apex. Don’t play Apex if you don’t want to play it. It is your life. Do what makes you happy.”
  • @FrankiiSlime: “#noapexaugust isn’t going to fucking work if everyone just jumps back in after a month. You have to stop playing completely until the problems are fixed or refuse to spend until the problems are fixed.”
  • @Garregrrt: “Day 2 of #NoApexAugust got off to another BIG start with +7k players compared to last week!” Below is a graph showing the growing number of players from July 26, 2022 (336,273) to August 2, 2022 ( 343.481) shows.

Apex continues to be the top game on Steam

What is the current status of Apex on Steam? On the website steamcharts.com there is a list of the top games, which is based on the current number of players:

Apex ranks 4th behind CS:GO, Dota 2 and PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS. At the time of writing, 237,091 Steam users were currently playing the game, with a peak of 347,314 (via steamcharts.com).

Within the last 30 days, the number of viewers has increased and seems to be tending to continue to grow (steamcharts.com).

The website only counts players on the Steam platform, ignoring all console and Origin players. Nevertheless, the numbers are a good indicator of how successful a game is among gamers.

Why was the boycott unsuccessful? Some players appear to be taking part in the #NoApexAugust boycott and have posted images uninstalling the game. However, the tweets show that some found it difficult to persevere.

Many also make fun of the boycott attempt or find the criticism of the game unjustified. Based on the number of players, it can be assumed that the Apex gamers who actually take part in the boycott are clearly outnumbered.

In other games, too, people have called for a boycott. Here’s what a Twitch streamer said against Hogwarts Legacy.
