CoD Modern Warfare 2 – Beta: Date, Start Times, Participation and Preload

The dates for the MW2 beta are now known.

After many rumours, leaks and a long bickering, Activision has finally released official information about the beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It will start for you in mid-September if you have a PlayStation. All others start a week later. Here you can find out how you can participate and what else you need to know about the test phase.

As you may already know from the predecessors, there will be two beta phases, each of which is also divided into an Early Access weekend and an Open Beta (via Call of Duty):

Modern Warfare 2 Beta Week 1 (Only on PS4 and PS5):

• Early Access: September 16th – September 17th
• open beta: September 18th – September 20th

Modern Warfare 2 Beta Week 2 (All Platforms):

• Early access: September 22 – September 23
• open beta: September 24th – September 26th

The following must be observed: Due to the current contract between Activision and Sony, the beta will only run on the PS4 and PS5 for the first week. In week two, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC will be added – then you can even enjoy crossplay multiplayer across different systems.

Is PS Plus or Xbox Live necessary? Yes. If you want to participate, you also need an active membership with PS Plus or Xbox Live (only in Germany).

Participation and Preload

Do I need a code to participate? You do not need to register to participate in the open beta. All you have to do is download the beta client from the respective store as soon as it is available. However, if you want access to Early Access, you must pre-order Modern Warfare 2 – then you will receive a corresponding code that you can click on Callofduty.com can redeem.

When does the preload start? Since the beta will only be held in over a month, there is unfortunately no information on this yet. These will probably only follow shortly before the start of the test phase. We will keep you up to date.

What can be played in the MW 2 Beta?

The focus of the beta is of course the multiplayer, which should be tested for possible bugs or balancing problems. Activision promises “a robust multiplayer experience that goes beyond the familiar 6v6, with a variety of carefully designed maps of various sizes and an equally impressive array of modes, progression systems and other aspects.”

The teased modes probably also include the leaked DMZ game variant, which is said to be based on Escape from Tarkov. In addition, the map Marina Bay Grand Prix be available where you can shoot your way across a Formula 1 track.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be released on October 28, 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
