Console War: PS4 is the most popular console among gamers

The console war between Sony and Microsoft has been going on for a long time. But which console is really more popular, Xbox or Playstation? A study found it.

The debate over which console is best is an age-old topic among gamers. For many years, especially the fans of direct competitors Sony and Microsoft very passionate when it comes to the question of which console is the better one.
This console war was also in the interest of manufacturers for a long time, as it had the potential to boost sales significantly. In the meantime it is known that Sony with the sales figures has the edge (see extra). But what about the general popularity in the gaming community?
One study the side Top Rated Casinos has set itself the task of answering this question. By analyzing various posts on social media, they wanted to find out which console was mentioned the most as an indicator of its popularity.
On the four major social media platforms Instagram, TikTok, Reddit and Youtube the mentions, hashtags and post views for each console were collected and then evaluated. In the end, each console received an endpoint number in the form of “Social Popularity Points”.
In doing so, it was found that the Playstation 4 the most popular console is on social media. She received the most mentions, especially on Instagram and Tiktok. The Xbox One finished second in the individual rankings, followed by the Playstation 5 in third place.
Overall, the Playstation consoles took first place with their average scores of PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, PS5 and PSP. Nintendo made it to second place with the average of the Nintendo 64, GameCube, Wii, Wii U, GameBoy, DS, 2DS, 3DS and Nintendo Switch. The latter enjoyed the greatest popularity among the Nintendo consoles and scored particularly well on YouTube.
The worst performers in the overall score were Xbox consoles, a composite of Original Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S scores.
How meaningful this result is, however, depends on the own definition of the term “popularity”. The chosen method of analyzing social media posts on the respective consoles can only reflect a certain part of the popularity. Still, it’s a relatively good insight into the current discourse of the gaming community.
