First-person-view drone: Leaked video shows DJI Avata in action

The drone manufacturer DJI is working on a drone with a first-person view that can also fly indoors. A new video and some leaked images show the drone including a motion controller and glasses to control the hardware.

An industry insider has leaked a video of a new drone from manufacturer DJI that is said to offer first-person view and be usable indoors. The model is called Avata, weighs 500 grams and has coated rotor blades, which should protect the drone from impact damage. The leaker OsitaLV’s video on Twitter shows the drone performing a test run in an open area.

At least a small drone driver’s license required to use the Avata

The video shows a group of testers, one of whom appears to be holding a motion-sensitive controller and wearing special glasses to control the drone. The glasses differ optically from the models already on the market from the manufacturer DJI, which is why experts suspect that they could be the new DJI Googles 2.

While the video only shows the drone from a distance and, above all, gives a view of the control devices, new pictures of the drone itself have also appeared on Twitter:

So far, there is little information on the drone’s specifications, but leaks suggest that the Avata’s camera quality is on par with DJI’s Mini 3 Pro. Because the drone will also weigh around 500 grams, users in this country must prove that they have a small drone license (or a large drone license if the drone is also to fly in the OPEN A2 category).
