[PLUS] Hot hardware autumn: Everything you need to know about Ryzen 7000, Raptor Lake, Socket AM5, PCI-Express 5 and ATX 3.0

2022: There is still something going on

The stage is definitely set for a hot autumn. For weeks and months, rumors about next-gen hardware have been dominating the headlines every day. The days of rumors are slowly but surely over, because the big autumn initiative by AMD, Intel, Nvidia and Co. will start in late summer. From September 2022, for example, we expect not only a completely new socket for AMD systems, but also Intel’s answer on Ryzen 7000 (see next page). With the advent of Ryzen 7000 systems, the need for DDR5 RAM will also increase significantly, because so far the modern memory is only available for Intel’s Alder Lake platform. And of course autumn also promises fireworks of new products for fans of fast gaming graphics cards (from page 14). Nvidia is in the starting blocks with the Geforce RTX 4000 aka Ada Lovelace, AMD plans to launch the first RDNA 3 GPUs as the Radeon RX 7000. At Nvidia, the rumor situation is very good, at AMD there is still little concrete information. Hopefully that doesn’t mean that new Radeons won’t come until 2023.

Not just GPUs and CPUs

But it’s not just “just” with new processors, graphics cards and mainboards. AMD is committed to launching the first Gen 5 SSDs together with partners like Micron and Phison (see page 13). The PCI Express generation 5 will therefore first become reality with fast SSDs – we will have to wait and see with graphics cards. The new pixel pushers and the high demands on power consumption also result in important changes in power supplies. The 16-pin connector is likely to become the standard for performance-hungry graphics cards in upcoming ATX 3.0-specified power supplies. We will also explain this on the following pages.
