Plague Lords, a tactical and turn-based sandbox RPG with a medieval setting, is scheduled to be released on Steam later this quarter. The game is developed and distributed by Red Unit Studios and can be tested as a demo. Below we present what the title has to offer.

Plague Lords will be released by Red Unit Studios in the coming weeks. The game will be released on Steam within the third quarter. You don’t necessarily have to wait if you want at least a first glimpse of the game, because a demo can already be downloaded from Plague Lords. Interested parties can also put the title on their wish list.

Turn-based sandbox RPG against the Black Death

Plague Lords is a tactical turn-based sandbox role-playing game that combines the elements of city building, exploration, survival and tower defense. Thematically, the title is set in the late Middle Ages of the 14th century, at the time of the plague, which plays a crucial role as a danger in the game.

Each resident of the settlement comes with their own attributes and skills. These have to be combined with hundreds of objects and dozens of buildings with a wide variety of purposes, traps and other tricks in order to get to the bottom of the infection process. The order of the day is to set up a powerful army. According to the description on Steam, the features of the game include the following:

  • The open sandbox world can be freely explored and regenerates with each run.
  • The day and night cycle directly affects gameplay.
  • Abandoned cities, farms, monasteries, forts and other unique locations are ready to be explored.

  • As the story progresses, your small camp will level up to other types of settlements.

  • Build fences, walls, barricades and set traps to defend against the plague’s invasion.
  • 30 professions from farmer and lumberjack to engineer and commander.
  • You lose characters forever due to injury, infection, or mortal wounds.
  • Infected characters gain unprecedented benefits, but can turn and attack at any time.
  • Characters must eat, drink, and sometimes sleep to restore their morale and strength.
