Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard is still not over the table. Microsoft is currently trying to prove that the general gaming landscape would not be damaged by this purchase. For example, the company has already stated that Activision Blizzard’s games are “nothing special”, so there shouldn’t be any problems with the acquisition.

CoD exclusively on Xbox consoles would not be worth it

Microsoft probably took up this point again in one go Document to the Administrative Council for Economic Defense in Brazil. Microsoft would not release titles exclusively on Xbox consoles because it would simply not be financially worthwhile. Such a strategy would only be effective, according to Microsoft, if Activision Blizzard’s titles encouraged gamers to buy an Xbox console, which the company says they simply don’t do.

“Regardless of how unsurprising Sony’s criticism of content exclusivity is – given that PlayStation’s entire strategy over the years has focused on exclusivity – the reality is that the strategy of allowing Activision Blizzard’s games to keeping them by not making them available on competing consoles just wouldn’t be profitable for Microsoft.”

“Such a strategy would only be viable if Activision Blizzard’s games were able to attract a large enough number of players to the Xbox console ecosystem, and if Microsoft could generate enough revenue from game sales to offset the losses , caused by not distributing such games on competing consoles.”
