Metal Slug Tactics: Release period is postponed

Metal Slug Tactics (Taktik & Strategie) von SNK

Publisher Dotemu and developers Leikir Studio announce that Metal Slug Tactics will not be released until next year. The makers behind the tactical RPG did not give a specific date.

The news that the release of the game will be postponed to 2023 was announced on Twitter. Metal Slug Tactics thus joins the now longer list of titles that have slipped from the current to the next calendar year. Among other things, the reboot of Advance Wars 1+2 is affected, to name just another postponed representative of strategy games.

Metal Slug Tactics: Development team needs more time

“Marco, Eri, Fio and Tarma are working on making Metal Slug Tactics as explosive as possible upon release, but the squad needs a little more time in the workshop to prepare for the battles to come. See you in the year 2023!” reads the announcement. So it’s safe to assume that the Leikir Studio development team simply needs more time to properly polish the game so that it will deliver the smoothest possible experience when it releases.

Especially considering that Leikir Studio has never worked on such a big IP as the Metal Slug franchise before, it should make things difficult for the French development team. After all, you want to meet the expectations of the fans, who can already look forward to the second remake of an SNK classic after the announcement of a new Fatal Fury part.

The latest installment in the legendary Metal Slug franchise was unveiled for the first time in more than a decade at last year’s Summer Game Fest. At that time, the makers still spoke of a release date sometime in 2022. Now we have to be patient again before we can spoil the tour alongside Marco Rossi with the cult villain General Donald Morden.

What is Metal Slug Tactics supposed to be about anyway?

Metal Slug Tactics is a turn-based tactical RPG set in the original universe of the Metal Slug series, which originated in 1996. Playing the role of one of the four playable characters, we’ll have unique weapons and warfare strategies that we’ll have to use in dynamic combat to defeat unruly robotic opponents.

We should also be able to summon powerful reinforcements to join us on the battlefield when the going gets tough. According to the developers, Metal Slug Tactics will come up with a series of missions and challenges that should offer a high replay value. If you are in the mood for tactical battles in a role-playing game, you may also be interested in the remake of another classic. With Tactics Ogre: Reborn, another turn-based strategy hit is finally making a comeback after more than ten years of radio silence.
