Diablo 4: Survey sheds light on the possible extent of microtransactions

from Sarah Petzold
Diablo 4 developers have sent out a poll to individual fans about potential pre-order bonuses and the microtransactions in the ARPG. From this, some conclusions can be drawn as to what plans Blizzard could have for Diablo 4.

After Diablo Immortal’s Pay2Win disaster, many Diablo fans fear that a similar real money juggernaut could await us with Diablo 4. The developers have repeatedly emphasized that the announced microtransactions will only be optional cosmetic content, but the community remains unsettled. A survey that Blizzard has now sent to selected players sheds some light on the matter.

Apparently it really stays with purely cosmetic content

The survey includes, among other things, lineups for various pre-order editions of Diablo 4 with different content. The prices for these versions vary between around 40 and 150 euros, whereby the prices depend on the respective content.

Possible pre-order bonuses include, in addition to the full version of the game:

  • an armor skin for each class (can be used any number of times)
  • a mount
  • a mount armor (cosmetic)
  • a back ornament (cosmetic)
  • Platinum (currency that can be used to buy cosmetic items in the in-game shop) worth between 10 and 20 euros
  • Battle Pass including premium rewards (cosmetic)
  • Early access to the game between two and seven days before release

The survey also includes various examples of armor skins, back adornments, mounts, and mount armor. The aim of the survey is apparently to find out how much money fans are willing to spend on certain additional content and which pre-order bonuses are particularly important to them. The good news: Based on the survey, it actually looks as if the developers are keeping their word and only offering cosmetic items for real money in the in-game shop.
