Dataminers recently got the source code for the PC version of the original PlayStation-exclusive superhero action title Spider-Man Remastered (Test+ by Dennis with a rating of 9.0) Found evidence of a PC launcher. The lines of code point to software that could combine Sony’s PC releases into its own interface or app environment.

Exclusive access to PC re-releases of PlayStation games via the software is less likely as Sony’s release strategy has so far included multiple PC download platforms. There is speculation about a slimmed down version of the PlayStation Store for PC or a library in order to be able to combine or offer future PC releases under one roof. A simplified crossplay and common community functions as well as PlayStation Plus offers are also suspected in the trade press.

Appropriate software would speak for Sony’s current strategy of gradually releasing other former PS4 or PS5 titles for home computers, or offering new multi-platform releases in a more coordinated manner. The dispute with Microsoft regarding Game Pass could also have strengthened a decision to exercise more control over your own PC releases or to be more flexible in marketing issues.
