The Darkest Files: Sequel to Through the Darkest of Times announced

Paintbucket Games today announced The Darkest Files, a sequel to the Nazi resistance game Through the Darkest of Times.

The Darkest Files is scheduled for release in 2023 on PC, Mac, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.

Investigates Nazi crimes

In The Darkest Files you take on the role of the young public prosecutor Esther Katz, the setting is Germany in the 1950s. She is part of the team around the Hessian Attorney General Fritz Bauer.

You investigate the crimes of former Nazi officials, collect evidence, question witnesses and finally go to court.

It’s about finding the right lawsuit, filing a complaint, and getting the criminals arrested. Ultimately, you must uncover the truth and convince the judiciary.

“After Through the Darkest of Times, we have decided to deal with the historical setting in one of our next games, also because the current developments of our time do not let us rest,” comments Jörg Friedrich from Paintbucket Games.

“We decided to switch chronologically to the time after the Second World War, when Nazis were still to be found in high-ranking offices all over Germany. Fritz Bauer and his team did immensely important work during this difficult time by killing numerous criminals the trial was made, and their actions were publicly accused. In doing so, they had a lasting impact on how Germans saw the Nazi era and helped bring ‘Never Again!’ to become a social consensus. With The Darkest Files, we want to give our players an insight into this difficult and exciting work.”

You can play The Darkest Files next week at gamescom in the Indie Arena in Hall 10.2.
