WoW: Ysera in Dragon Flight? Data mining reveals possible return
At the end of WoW: Shadowlands we had to say goodbye to Ysera in the Ardenwald with the night fae. WoW’s green dragon icon reincarnated there, but clarified that it was bound to Ardenweald – and cannot return to Azeroth without a great sacrifice. So the writers at Blizzard had come up with a good way to save the important Warcraft character for later. According to data mining, this “later” could already be in Dragonflight. After all, what would a dragon expansion be without Ysera?

Ysera in WoW: Dragonflight? That reveals the data mining
While the dragon had emphasized to Tyrande at the end of Shadowlands that she would return as soon as Elune wanted it, data mining from the alpha (via WoWHead) that at least there will be renewed talk about the price of Ysera’s return. This time also with explicit disclosures of what would be required. Here is the data mining dialog:
Tyrande: Ysera, your flight needs you.
Tyrande: We need you.
Tyrande: Whatever the price may be for your return to Azeroth, name it.
Malfurion: Tyrande…
Tyrande: Tell us!
Malfurion: It’s me.
Malfurion: I must be the one to stay.
Tyrande: What?
Malfurion: Ysera knows this — though she would never ask it of me.
Tyrande: No.
Tyrande: We will find another way.
Malfurion: When she gave her life for mine in Val’sharah, it was not her time.
Malfurion: And now… the balance may be restored.
Tyrande: Then… then I will stay as well.
Tyrande: Shandris and the others can…
Malfurion: Tyrande…
Malfurion: Should everything we hope come to pass, the Kaldorei will need you.
Tyrande: I’m so tired, Malfurion.
Tyrande: Don’t ask this of me.
Tyrande: After everything we have endured…
Malfurion: My love.
Malfurion: You have always been the strength of our people.
Malfurion: They will follow you ever forward, and you will never be alone.
Tyrande: Until I see you again…
Tyrande: I will dream of the night we may truly rest… together.
Tyrande had to endure a lot – and in Dragonflight she could be tormented again by fate. At least that’s what dialogue from alpha data mining suggests.

Malfurion for Ysera: The Writers’ Deal?
There it is: the eternally separated couple of Malfurion and Tyrande are once again about to be torn apart by cruel fate. It makes sense, after all, as the leading night elf druid, Malfurion has a strong bond with Ysera and is definitely willing to take her place in the afterlife if it helps protect his loved ones and Azeroth. The writers at Blizzard probably also ensure that not too many characters from the big WoW cast have to be juggled – after all, players keep asking themselves why character XY wasn’t part of the important event Z.
Incidentally, it is not yet clear how exactly the circumstances and context of the dialogue will turn out. Likewise, we don’t know how exactly the “if Elune wants it” clause explained in Shadowlands fits into this deal of two lives. Do you have any theories?
