What Remains of Edith Finch is a narrative adventure that not only tells its story in a very creative way, but also offers more variety in terms of gameplay and visuals than many other representatives of the genre. However, the story has it all and doesn’t shy away from serious topics.

A game you won’t soon forget

What Remains of Edith Finch is on Game Pass until August 31st. However, the remaining time is easily enough to play through the title, because you only need between two and three hours for that. But it will be worth it if you take your time, because even if the game is short, it sticks in your memory and could keep you busy for a long time.

It’s all about this: There seems to be a curse on the finches. How else to explain the fact that all family members died prematurely? It’s up to us to find out. Much variety: Unlike classic walking simulators, each chapter dedicated to a family member is completely individual. They are based on what made the protagonists. When we experience the story of the imaginative little Molly, who just turned ten years old, we transform into different animals: we fly through the air as an owl and swim through the water as a shark.

But be careful: What sounds relaxed at first always has a dark component. For example, in this section we devour other animals while Molly recounts her terrible hunger in her childlike voice. Another chapter is designed like a trashy horror comic.

Are you struggling with mental problems yourself or just need a little feel-good game, then you should rather keep your hands off this title. For this article I checked again how long Edith Finch is and was completely amazed. In my memory, the game is much longer because it just made such a big impression. It offers these very different impressions and confronts us with stories that make us ponder. By the way, my favorite is the chapter about the fish factory.
