Starfield: Modders are already preparing for bug fixing for the release

from Norman Wittkopf
The sci-fi role-playing game Starfield may not come until 2023, but due to the notorious error-proneness of Bethesda titles, modders want to react in good time.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s Fallout 4, The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim or Oblivion: the big games from Bethesda Softworks have the reputation of needing one or two improvements after the release. In addition to the official patches from the developer studio itself, the modding community has often intervened in the past with its own remedies, since the constantly evolving engine of the games is known to be particularly easy to modify.

Some long-time fans of the Bethesda games are now expecting the release of Starfield next year that it could possibly use bug fixes from hobby developers as quickly as possible for the release. For potential bugs and glitches in the space RPG, a large-scale community project was set up in advance, which goes by the name of “Starfield Community Patch”, like pcgamesn.com reported.

It is a “collective effort by mod authors and the wider Starfield player community to fix bugs, errors, and other inconsistencies in the game.” It also says that “the corrections contained in the patch are intended to fix bugs or errors in the base game”, which is known to rely on a modified version of Bethesda’s Creation Engine.

Typical mistakes

Examples of expected bugs for the release are “misplaced objects, script errors, inconsistencies in item properties, buggy missions/quests, game-breaking exploits, missing attributes like tags, header flags, etc., and typos. The overall goal is to to improve the vanilla experience for all players”, according to the ambitious modders at Nexusmods.com.

The project invites players to report bugs they find after Starfield’s release or to submit fixes they have made, which will then be incorporated into the overall patch. Since there is still some way to go before the release of Starfield, the ambitions seem a bit premature and the finished – or possibly in need of improvement – end product should probably be awaited. According to a current theory, the game could be released next March.
