Diablo 4: Twitch streamer freaks out about the season pass

from Sarah Petzold
Blizzard is doing everything it can to make it clear to Diablo fans that Diablo 4 won’t be Pay-2-Win, but according to one Twitch streamer, that’s taking on absurd proportions. The streamer Quin69 freaked out in front of the camera when he read the developer’s explanation of the season pass.

Diablo 4 is definitely not going to be a pay-2-win game. In any case, the developers want to make that clear to the fans and therefore emphasize several times in a recent blog post that fans can earn content in the season pass “for free”. But it is precisely this formulation that causes a stir with the Twitch streamer Quin69, who has made a name for himself with runs in Path of Exile and Diablo 3.

“Free” content in a full price game as excitement

Because the official blog post by the developers says about the season pass, among other things: “The Season Pass offers Free and Premium tiers. The pass grants players a range of free rewards just for playing.

Quintin “Quin69” Crawford found the wording of the season pass’s free content so ridiculous that he freaked out on camera:

In the scene from his stream, Quin69 can be seen yelling: “Damn it, man, what’s that? ‘Free just by playing’? It’s a fucking computer game that I fucking bought! What the hell are you even talking about? Are you telling me I CAN play the game game I bought? And I get free stuff? What are you even saying, man? What the the… This is gaming in 2022, holy sh*t. God, you can buy this game and get it for free Get rewards Just by playing Just by playing You just have to play the game you bought. [lacht] What the hell?

So, for Quin69, the stumbling block is the way the developers emphasize that players don’t have to spend extra money on rewards in a full price game. For Blizzard to speak of “free” content for a game that fans previously bought for real money seems like pure mockery. However, it seems understandable that the developers want to do everything possible to make it clear to their players that Diablo 4 will differ significantly from Diablo Immortal in terms of microtransactions. But in this case, Blizzard may have overshot the mark a little.
