Gamescom 2022 traditionally starts with its opening show, the Opening Night Live. In our article we tell you exciting insider tips of the show.

Cologne – Gamescom 2022 has been in full swing since today, August 24th. The fair was traditionally opened last night by presenter Geoff Keighly as part of Opening Night Live and broadcast live via YouTube and Twitch. As expected, there was a sheer flood of announcements and new trailers flickered across the screens every minute. With the amount of games that are shown at such fairs, it is easy to lose track. We’ll tell you 5 insider tips from the fair that you shouldn’t overlook and show you the bombastic trailer for them.

Gamescom Opening Night Live – These are the insider tips of the fair

High On Life (Release: 13.12.2022): Rick & Morty creator Justin Roiland was also at the show with his new game High On Life. The title is a wacky first-person shooter in which each weapon is actually an alien and also communicates with you during the game. The concept looks fresh, wonderfully crazy, but also really action-packed.

With its fast gameplay, which also offers evasive jumps and counterattacks, the title is even remotely reminiscent of Doom Eternal. Of course only from the game mechanics. Anyone who loves Rick and Morty’s humor will certainly get their money’s worth here anyway. High On Life looks refreshingly different and offers a change from the shooter competition at first glance. The title is slated for release this December.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game (Release: 2023): The name of the game pretty much gives away the whole basic premise. Yes, you read that right. It’s about deadly clowns from space.

Once you’ve accepted that, you might want to remember that this is the game of a 1988 horror comedy, and the title is likely to be a multiplayer shooter. In fact, not much is known about the title yet, but the trailer already whets the appetite for the absurd chaos teased here.

Overall, the game seems to be based on role models like “Dead by Daylight” and the game director was previously responsible for the horror multiplayer title “Friday the 13th: The Game”. Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game is scheduled to go into open beta in spring 2012 and will likely be released next year.

Lies of P (Release: 2023): Nobody really had this title on their screens. “Lies of P” surprised at the fair not only with its chic look, but also with its imaginative worlds and its gameplay, which was presented in the best Souls manner. You slip into the role of Pinocchio (yes, the one with the long nose when he lies) and fight your way through the dark, fairytale town of Krat (but fortunately the wooden nose is completely missing in the trailer).

The character design looks really promising so far and some of the boss fights shown give hope for a lot of exciting duels in an unused setting. How the game scenes fit into the popular story of Pinocchio will be shown in 2023 when the title is due to be released for PlayStation, Xbox and PC.

Moving Out 2 (Release: 2023): If you like classic, good, couch coop, you should prick up your ears now! With Moving Out 2, the fun coop title finally gets a sequel. Like its big brother Overcooked, Moving Out is about teamwork, communication, dexterity and of course lots of chaos. The predecessor already offered hours of fun and put various friendships to the test.

However, the latest feature of Moving Out 2 seems to be the online coop, which now lets you experience the glorious chaos even when you and your friends don’t have time for a session on the couch at home. The title will be released next year by publisher Team 17 and will be available for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox consoles (including last-gen).

The Callisto Protocol (Release: 02.12.2022): Okay, technically speaking, we’ve known The Callisto Protocol for a long time, and there was some gameplay to see even before Gamescom. That doesn’t change the fact that the anticipation for the spiritual successor to “Dead Space” is immense and all horror fans should mark the second of December 2022 in their calendars.

The horror game is already oozing with atmosphere and beyond that just looks great visually. However, the title is probably not something for the faint-hearted, because “The Callisto Protocol” is obviously not stingy with harsh depictions of violence and a lot of brutal kill maneuvers. If you fancy a grown-up, dark, horror game in the tradition of Dead Space, you’ll definitely be happy here. The title will be available on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Steam and the Epic Games Store.

What else is on at Gamescom this year? Of course, many more titles were announced at Opening Night Life and there were also new trailers for big games like Hogwarts Legacy to see at Gamescom. Here in the article we wanted to present the lesser known games to you.

You can find an overview of all games and highlights of the Opening Night Live in our corresponding article. Gamescom will run until August 28, 2022. Due to the pandemic, the trade fair had to take a two-year break, this year it will be held in person and on site in Cologne for the first time.
