Dune: Awakening: Funcom’s survival MMO has a name – and a trailer

We already knew that Funcom is working on an open world survival MMO in the Dune universe. Now the game also has a name: Dune: Awakening.

Dune: Awakening is in the works for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Inspiration from film and book

According to Funcom, inspiration is drawn from both Frank Herbert’s books and Denis Villeneuve’s film.

“The first objective is survival before players fight for supremacy over a vast and boundless Arrakis shared with thousands of others.”

Secrets and riches await you in unknown areas. You build your shelter, which becomes a powerful base over time. You also have to avoid the sandworms and use well-known vehicles to explore the dunes.

You use your harvesters to mine spice in the appropriate fields, while protecting them from enemy factions.

“The fast-paced battles seamlessly transition from battles in armored ground vehicles to ornithopter battles in the sky,” promises Funcom. “Through carefully planned intrigues, influence within the Landsraad is expanded and the rise to power planned.”
