PayDay 2: New co-op heist shooter from ex-PayDay creators in pre-production

The heist genre can not only inspire in films and series, but has also captivated players on their home screens for years. It’s hard to imagine the video game landscape without names like PayDay. In an exclusive NME Gamescom Interview 10 Chambers Creative Director and CEO Ulf Andersson – who also worked as a game designer on the PayDay series – comments on the studio’s new co-op heist shooter, which is currently in pre-production.

“I’m basically back to heist shit – so it’s a co-operative heist FPS and has a kind of techno-thriller theme. I read a lot of sci-fi books so I imagine anything cyberpunk is inspired by and a Lots of other shit.”

In addition to the genre, Andersson also assured that the Swedish studio’s new title will probably be a little more reserved than the well-known PayDay franchise: “This one doesn’t have constant shooting,” he adds. “Payday had a massive problem with the the action would boot up and then just stay booted up.”

Not quite as hardcore

But changes are not only planned for PayDay, but also for the coop horror heist shooter GTFO released by 10 Chambers last year, whose difficulty level you don’t want to adopt directly in the new project: “You can sneak for at least an hour and then damn it just die again, right? So it’s not going to have that hardcore thing. It’s mechanically smoother, or you could say easier to play.” You can find our preview of GTFO here.

However, a name or even a release date has not yet been announced, as they still want to give themselves some freedom with regard to the title and a possible deadline. But Andersson assures: “We’re in pre-production at the moment, but things are ramping up quite fast.” Interested parties can remain curious.
