World of WarCraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic Major Pre-Patch is live

The major pre-patch for World of WarCraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic is now live.

Among other things, it brings with it new features and events that should herald the release of Wrath Classic on September 27th.

Who can play it?

As with previous Classic releases, you only need a WoW subscription or game time to play Wrath Classic and the pre-patch.

In addition, there are optional upgrades that can give you a few extras:

Northrend Heroic Upgrade

• Character boost to level 70
• Contains the Experienced Riding skill, a mount, starting gear, and a small amount of gold
• Maximum one upgrade per account
• Pebbles, a penguin pet
• Fish Speaker’s Lucky Lure, a toy used to summon a Tuskarr

Northrend Epic Upgrade

• All items from the Heroic Upgrade
• Kalu’ak Whalebone Glider, a flying mount for characters in WoW Classic
• Tuskarr Coastal Glider, a flying mount for modern WoW
• 30 days playing time

The timeline after the pre-patch to the release of Wrath Classic is as follows:

• September 6-13: Event – Zombie Plague. A mysterious disease is rampant in the capital cities and players must be on their guard to avoid succumbing to its deadly effects!
• September 13th to Release: Event – Scourge Invasion. In various locations across Azeroth, players can earn powerful rewards by taking defensive measures against an invading necropolis and defeating Scourge forces on the ground
