Halo Infinite will offer a co-op mode in the future, but it will not work via split-screen.

Developer 343 Industries announced last week that the planned split-screen co-op mode for Halo Infinite will come no more, for many long faces. Because although co-op is now working more and more online, split-screen has a certain heritage, especially in the Halo series, which should also be taken up again in Infinite.

It is all the more curious that the split-screen mode is apparently already or still in the game – and can actually be played with a little trick. At least that’s what Twitter users think Zeny_IC found out, and the first video instructions from other users such as Halo Création are already available.

Here’s how you can play Halo Infinite in split-screen co-op

Basically, the split-screen co-op works via a menu glitch, for which you have to follow the following steps according to the sources above:

  • Select the Halo Infinite campaign menu and load a save.
  • Select “Play”
  • Once the “Loading Map” inscription appears, open your friends list and join whoever is in the menus.
  • You can then leave your fire team.
  • Create a custom lobby and select “Offline” in the server options
  • Now it is possible to connect more profiles and controllers.
  • The co-op split screen starts when you press “Play”.

This should make it possible to tackle the Halo Infinite campaign with up to three other players. Although access to this is obviously not intended by the development team, the complications seem to be limited according to Halo Creation. At least there were no problems with the AI or crashes in cutscenes.

Important: As Binary G nonsense writes on Twitter, the glitch has to be re-run after the end of a session. This will ensure that you get back to the save you were using before the glitch was used for the first time. If you don’t do this, your save file will be overwritten if you then select a mission again in normal mode!

343 Industries will likely patch soon

As the split-screen integration is an unfinished feature in its current state, we assume that it is unsuitable for actually playing through the Halo Infinite campaign in its entirety. It could still be fun for a bit of split-screen tinkering though.

However, you should be quick if you still want to try the split-screen co-op. Because it probably won’t be too long before 343 Industries makes access impossible with a patch. It will certainly not have escaped the attention of the studio that there is a back door to trying out the now sawed-off mode after all.

After a long delay, Halo Infinite was released in December 2021 for the Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC. The multiplayer is currently in its second season, and there have already been tests for online co-op. This will still find its way into the game, but we will probably have to do without split-screen co-op completely in the future.

Are you ready to take such a detour for split-screen co-op?
