AirPods Pro 2 are official: the new in-ear headphones can do that

In addition to the new iPhone 14 and Watch Series 8 models, Apple also presented the AirPods Pro 2 yesterday. These have the new H2 chip, which takes the sound experience and active noise suppression to a new level compared to its predecessor to raise the level.

Like Apple in a press release announced, the active noise cancellation (ANC) should now be twice as effective as compared to the previous generation – and the Apple engineers have also screwed on the transparency mode. Adaptive transparency is brand new. This should dampen particularly loud noises such as construction site noise or loud engines to a tolerable volume in fractions of a second. However, warning signals such as sirens remain audible.

Better sound thanks to H2 chip and new driver

The sound of the AirPods Pro 2 should now be far better than its predecessors. According to Apple, the more powerful H2 chip offers “a unique acoustic experience”. A new audio driver ensures less distortion. Friends of bass-heavy music can look forward to a special amplifier. This should produce richer bass and crystal clear sound in a larger frequency range.

And since not only the technology but also the fit of the headphones contributes to the listening experience, the AirPods Pro 2 now also come with extra small ear tips (size XS).

Personalized 3D audio profile

3D audio was already one of the highlights of the first generation of AirPods Pro. With the successor, Apple was able to improve the feature for virtual surround sound again. With the iPhone’s TrueDepth camera, users can now create their own 3D audio profile. The camera analyzes the size and shape of the head and ears and thus creates an individually tailored hearing experience. The personalized 3D audio profile with dynamic head tracking supports music, films and series on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV.

More comfort functions and longer battery life

Controlling the AirPods Pro 2 has also become more convenient. The volume can be adjusted by stroking the shaft without taking the iPhone out of the pocket. By pressing the bottom end of the in-ear headphones, users can jump to the next song, take calls or activate Siri for voice control.

The battery life could also increase compared to the predecessor. This is now up to 6 hours with active noise suppression. With the charging case, the in-ear headphones can be fully recharged up to four times. A maximum runtime of up to 30 hours is possible. That’s six hours more than the predecessor.

The charging case mentioned has been given a fresh design and is now protected from sweat and water. If you occasionally misplace the case, you can now locate it using your iPhone (with U1 chip). An integrated speaker makes searching easier by playing loud tones.

The AirPods Pro 2 cost 299 euros. They can be pre-ordered from September 9th. The new in-ear headphones will be available in retail outlets from September 23rd.
