Call of Duty Warzone 2 will probably be the real successor to the first Battle Royale offshoot later this year. Slowly but surely more and more information about the sequel is getting through and here we are collecting everything that is already known or has been leaked.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 will be released in 2022

Officially announced: The fact that CoD Warzone 2 is coming has been clear for quite a while. The first official confirmation came in spring 2022, but there has not yet been a real revelation. However, this will take place shortly, on September 15th at the big COD Next event.

  • More info: September 15th

When is Warzone 2 coming? There is no fixed, official release date apart from 2022 (which should also be announced next week). But there is already a leak that may have already revealed the launch date of Warzone 2:

  • Alleged release: November 16th

On which platforms? Call of Duty Warzone 2 is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X and PC (Steam/Battle.net).

Warzone 2 will be a real sequel with a new graphics engine

Detached from Warzone: Warzone 2 appears as a completely standalone game that works independently of the first Warzone. So the sequel will be detached from all the content and the associated ballast of the first and will serve as a new beginning.

New graphics engine: Like Modern Warfare 2, Warzone 2 relies on a new, improved graphics framework with the IW 9.0 engine. This means that we can also move away from the previous look of the first and say goodbye. At the same time, there is uniformity between MW2 and Warzone 2.

A welcome change: Over time and CoD Black Ops Cold War and CoD Vanguard, a lot of very different weapons, skins and other content had come together that made Warzone often feel overloaded and bloated.

You cannot take your progress and skins from Warzone 1 with you

No cross progression: This restart as a completely fresh game also means that we cannot take anything from the first Warzone. This includes all sprays, skins, weapon camos, charms, and so on. With the second part, everyone starts all over again.

New content: But it has already been announced that we can collect a lot of stuff in Warzone 2 again. There should be new content, a separate inventory and of course new progression systems.

Will it be Free2Play again? We assume that CoD Warzone 2, just like its predecessor, will be playable again completely for free. At the same time, a Battle Pass should also return, along with the ability to buy skins and much more. A constant supply of content after the launch is also considered safe.

What about cheaters and bugs in Warzone 2?

Ricochet Anti Cheat is also used in the new Warzone 2. This should help to keep at least the worst cheaters away. This time, the anti-cheat program will start right after the game is launched, if everything works.

By dealing with a game built from the ground up – that doesn’t also include content from three other Call of Duty titles – there’s a good chance that we’ll have fewer bugs to look forward to.

Well-known maps could also return in Warzone 2

Comeback of well-known maps: According to insider Tom Henderson, Warzone 2 should again contain some well-known maps from old classics. This time, of course, from Modern Warfare 2 in particular. Which of course fits the sequel of the same name, even if it’s not a reboot or anything like that.

Quarry, Terminal, Afgan and Highrise should return, for example. Here you may already see a part of the Warzone 2 map, in which a bit of Highrise seems to be hiding. At least that’s what was seen in the Modern Warfare 2 trailer:

strong holds? Also according to Tom Henderson, there are so-called strongholds in Warzone 2. These fortresses could be conquered as the game progresses. To do this, we would first have to free them from AI opponents, but then we would have access to our own loadout. This should only work once per round for each fortress.

Rebirth successor: According to leaks and rumors, a second, slightly smaller map will also appear. If the big Battle Royale map succeeds Verdansk and Caldera, the second, smaller one would probably be a kind of map like we got to know from Rebirth Island.

Then there is also the mysterious sandbox mode DMZ

CoD goes Tarkov & Hunt: It looks like Call of Duty fans will also get a PvPvE mode, apparently reminiscent of shooters like Escape from Tarkov or Hunt: Showdown. However, this is only unconfirmed information that should be treated with caution:

Part of Warzone 2 or not? At the moment, however, the leakers and rumors are not quite clear as to whether the mode allegedly called DMZ will be a standalone offshoot, appear as part of Modern Warfare 2 or belong to Warzone 2. A combination of everything would also be possible and we expect a kind of link.
