Ever since Charlie Cox made his long-awaited return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (or debut, depending on how we see it) in Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans have wondered if he’s the same version of Daredevil that defended the streets of Hell’s Kitchen. on Netflix for three acclaimed seasons.

After all, Disney Plus removed the entire Defenders Saga from Netflix’s hands and this was a potential indicator that they were the same, while Marvel’s official website also seemed to hint that the street-level superhero adventure it was being absorbed into the canon. Add in confirmation that Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk had signed on to return in the 18-episode series Born Again, and all signs pointed to a continuation of the initial series.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case, after Cox confirmed to the ExtraTV site following his appearance at D23 Expo that his impending small-screen solo exhibition begins with a completely clean slate, and the actor made it clear that Born Again is very much his own thing.

“My feeling is, based on the title Born Again, I think the sense is that it’s a new beginning, it’s going to be different, it’s going to be totally different. There are going to be new stories and new ideas. It’s a Season 1, it’s not Season 4, so it’s something completely new. Which I think is the way to go. If you’re going to do it again, do it another way.”

Daredevil: Born Again is expected to release in spring 2024.
