Intel: Price effects should also make mainboards more expensive from the fourth quarter

from Maximilian Hohm
According to Intel’s forecast, a price adjustment is not only necessary for the processors, but also for the mainboards in order to cover the rising costs. Apart from that, the CFO wants to cross-subsidize the weakening results of other divisions of the company through higher prices. Read more about this below.

In the current situation, many everyday objects are becoming more and more expensive and inflation does not stop at hardware components. So far it hasn’t shown itself and the inflated GPU prices have even fallen a bit, but Intel’s products in particular are expected to become significantly more expensive in the fourth quarter. Intel has previously announced price increases for the 13th Core generation due to the difficulty and complexity of manufacturing it than the 12th generation and supply chain issues. So far, however, it was not clear to what extent.

After Intel had already stated that the price increase should primarily affect laptops and processors, other components are now being added. According to the Chinese site “ITHome”, mainboards in particular are said to be affected. The reason for this is quite simple. Intel also manufactures and sells chipsets for mainboard manufacturers such as the Z690 or B660. If the costs for this increase, Intel passes them on and the motherboard manufacturer also increases the prices.

However, this phenomenon should only become noticeable with the release of Raptor Lake and the 700 series chipsets, which should be on the market soon. Intel’s CFO, David Zinsner, is also trying to compensate for Intel’s currently unpleasant business results in some business areas, such as the losses of around 25 percent in the Client Computing Group (CCG) area, with higher component prices. The future should show how well this will work.

Intel’s current Alder Lake processors have not yet been affected and are still within a recommendable price range for gamers. The Core i5-12400F is in the PCGH price comparison for 177 euros available and offers a good compromise between gaming and application performance. If only high gaming performance is important, that can also come off 101 euros available Core i3-12100F can be selected, but it hardly has any reserves for the future.
