Lies of P: 40 minutes of Pinocchio-Soulslike gameplay with Bloodborne vibes
The developers of Lies of P have released more than 40 minutes of Pinocchio-Soulslike gameplay with Bloodborne vibes in a two-part video. If you want to convince yourself of the quality of the gaming experience before the release, you already have the chance to do so.
At gamescom 2022, colleague Stefan from PC Games already half an hour into Lies of Pand its positive conclusion confirms our assumption that we are dealing with a exciting representative of the Soulslike guild might have to do with:
“In the half hour I spent with Lies of P two things turned out for me. First: If you follow the Souls-like genre, you probably won’t get much gameplay here that you don’t already know from various other games. Because the whole thing is already playing cleanly and intensively, this is hardly a point of criticism. Second: Atmosphere and premise are so interesting and, compared to what has been shown so far, so successfully implemented that it is worth keeping an eye on the title for that alone. Lies of P is weird and different enough to stand out from the Souls-like tide, and the generous release window with the already very convincing first impression gives me hope that the developers will deliver a great, high-quality game here.”
40 minutes of Lies of P gameplay
The “weird and different” mentioned by Stefan can already be found in the starting position of Neowiz’s action role-playing game. You take on the role of Pinocchio, a mechanical puppet in the form of a young man who goes in search of the famous master Geppetto. You explore the winding city of Krat, which with its Belle Époque aesthetics is reminiscent of European cities between the 19th and 20th centuries, but turns out to be a dark hellhole in which the inhabitants were slaughtered by mechanical creatures.
As in the original story, lying is said to play an important role in the video game adaptation. On the one hand, the lies should help the protagonist to become more human. On the other hand, these can affect the procedurally generated quests and even the end of the story. It is also clear that there will be mechanics comparable to those in From Software’s Souls games, keywords: beacons and souls.
But how exactly does it all play out? Well, why don’t you look over the shoulders of the developers for about 40 minutes?
You can expect fights with different weapons against normal and trickier opponents, NPC interactions, tutorial overlays, insights into the menu and much more. If you want to convince yourself of the quality of the gaming experience before the release in 2023, you already have the chance to do so.
