Roach racing from Cyberpunk 2077: arcade side scroller available for smartphones
The sidescroller arcade game “Roach Race” known from Cyberpunk 2077 has also been available in Apple’s Google Play and App Store for a week now. The game about Geralt of Riva’s horse Roach was introduced as part of patch 1.6 and can be downloaded free of charge.
Last week CD Projekt Red rolled out patch 1.6 with the Edgerunners update for Cyberpunk 2077. This also included the implementation of arcade machines on which the sidescroller “Rapace Race” can be played. But that’s not all: for players who want to have roach races on the go and away from Cyberpunk 2077, the sidescroller is also available as a free app for iPhone and Android smartphones.
Roach Race – From the arcade to your smartphone
The game is known to be from CD Projekt Red, but it was created in collaboration with Crunching Koalas. In 2D graphics familiar from arcade titles, iconic locations from the Witcher series can be explored in a “never-ending journey”. The aim of the roach race is to collect points and climb the leaderboard. The description of the game in the App Store reads:
“Race along with Roach through an endless loop of the continent. Dash through incredible landscapes and jump over obstacles in the form of deadly monsters and dangerous traps. You will traverse five scenic regions straight out of the voyages of Geralt of Rivia: the mysterious Kaer Morhen Fortress, lively Novigrad, forested Flotsam, majestic Skellige and magically enchanted Misty Island.”
According to Eurogamer, when it comes to the design of roach races, a comparison with Google’s dinosaur game is appropriate. Instead of cacti and pteranodons, however, fences and griffins await the player. Speed boosts can be given to Geralt’s horse by means of carrots, which can be picked up during the course of the game.

Double tapping the screen allows Roach to double jump, while three taps initiates an invincibility dash with a few second cooldown.
