The Nintendo 64 was only partially known for its violent, antisocial and swear word-riddled games. Not rare either. With this work in 2001, both prejudices vanished into thin air.

Rare will definitely be familiar to those of you who played the SNES, Nintendo 64 or other early consoles from the Japanese manufacturer. Because some of the most important titles for Nintendo devices come from the British game developer. Battletoads, Donkey Kong Country, Diddy Kong Racing, blast corps and Golden Eye 007 are just a few of the works that many will probably still be familiar with.

With the cute little squirrel, Rare had a warrior in the stable who first appeared in Diddy Kong Racing and with Conker’s Pocket Tales got treated to a cute little Game Boy platformer. His course was completely child-friendly, but the dear offspring should never touch their fingers Conker’s Bad Fur Day to get. Because even if the rodent adorned the cover, he had passed puberty and had grown up. This is also suggested by the USK approval from the age of 16.

The story already offers a glimpse of why Rare’s 3D platformer isn’t exactly kid-friendly. Because after a night of drinking, Conker wakes up completely hungover, is introduced to the basic game mechanics by a drunk scarecrow and finally has to deal with big-breasted sunflowers, rocked-down bee kings, cursing bats and a huge, singing turd. So the humor is rather special, which even then not everyone liked.

But little Dennis liked it all very much, no wonder, so shortly before puberty. But as is often the case, our memories can deceive us. And so Dennis went for this retro reality check, Rare replays to activate and feel Conker’s Bad Fur Day extensively on the antisocial rodent tooth. Will he laugh tears or cry?
