Incredible decision: Here’s why GoldenEye will be better on Switch than Xbox
At yesterday’s Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced that GoldenEye 007 would soon be available for the expansion pack for Nintendo Switch Online. The Nintendo Switch version doesn’t appear to have any technical upgrades or anything like that, but it does come with online multiplayer. In the same breath, Rare also announced a version of GoldenEye 007 for Xbox consoles as part of Xbox Game Pass.
GoldenEye 007 on Xbox without online co-op
As developer studio Rare explains, the Xbox version of GoldenEye Achievements will feature up to 4K resolution, an improved frame rate, and a few new control options. Like Microsoft now confirmed to The Verge, online co-op will not be a feature of the Xbox version of GoldenEye 007. Co-op is therefore only possible locally with up to four players, but this also benefits from the improved frame rate.
Microsoft hasn’t said yet how much their GoldenEye version will cost as a standalone product, or whether it will even be possible to purchase it separately. However, all owners of a digital copy of Rare Replay, a games collection of classic Rare titles, will receive GoldenEye at no additional cost.
If the Xbox version also had online co-op, it would probably be clearly superior to the Switch version, but potential buyers now have to consider which feature is more important to them. Unfortunately, Nintendo’s online services are often rather modest, so we’ll probably have to wait for the finished product to assess whether an online mode for GoldenEye 007 (buy now ) represents the decisive factor.
