The MMO Babylon's Fall dies after less than a year - "Destiny in the medieval look" was a flop on Steam

The action RPG Babylon’s Fall from PlatinumGames, the makers behind hits like NieR:Automata or the Bayonetta series, is on the brink of collapse. After less than 365 days, the servers and the associated websites are switched off. MeinMMO summarizes the most important information for you here.

What is Babylon’s fall? Babylon’s Fall is a third-person action RPG with hack and slash elements. You play a sentinel and have to explore the tower of Babylon. There you fight against powerful opponents and you can constantly earn better equipment.

The game can be played alone or in groups of four players. There is also a social hub where you can find NPCs, quest givers and traders. You can interact with other players and form groups for the next adventure, much like in Destiny.

The gameplay is typical Hack&Slash, as known for example from NieR: Automata, another game from the studio Platinum Games.

However, there is one special feature: In addition to your four primary weapons, sword, shield, hammer and bow, your character can equip two astral weapons. The order in which you use your weapons in combat changes their effect and allows you to perform cool combo attacks.

Nevertheless, the game has now spectacularly failed almost half a year after its release and we will show you the reasons for this.

That’s why Babylon’s Fall flopped

Why did Babylon’s fall fail? The first trailer for the game received a lot of positive feedback, but critical voices were already piling up in the beta. While the combat system was praised, players criticized the level and item design. The graphics, which should look like a living painting, were also criticized and subsequently revised.

Many players were upset that Babylon’s Fall was going to be a live service game, they would have preferred it to be a single player game like NieR: Automata or Bayonetta.

The game was not convincing at the release. Most reviews were mixed or negative. Babylon’s Fall’s biggest problem, however, is the lack of active players. Most of the time there were fewer than 50 Guardians on the servers. At times, Steam only recorded a single player exploring the Tower of Babel alone (via steamdb.info)

The trailer for Babylon’s Fall still looked promising:
