AMD Ryzen 7000: Gigabyte mainboards all come with EXPO support

from Valentin Sattler
Gigabyte has announced that all AM5 motherboards will support the new EXPO RAM standard. At the same time, the company will continue to offer XMP support.

With the upcoming Ryzen 7000 processors, numerous changes are imminent. In addition to adjustments to the architecture and production, the new CPUs also include a new socket and updated connection standards. AMD will also support DDR5 and PCI Express 5.0 in the future. There are also other changes, at least when it comes to memory: With EXPO, short for Extended Profiles for OverclockingAMD recently announced a new standard for memory profiles.

EXPO support at Gigabyte

EXPO is supposed to compete against Intel’s XMP in the future, which the company established for the first time with the DDR3 standard. The objective is the same: users should be able to select a suitable memory profile with little effort in order to get as much performance as possible out of the system. In contrast to XMP, the focus of EXPO is on AMD systems, so that compatibility should be guaranteed here.

For this to work, however, the RAM and mainboard manufacturers must participate. When EXPO was announced, AMD already had two well-known partners from the main memory segment, Corsair and G.Skill. And now Gigabyte, as a mainboard manufacturer, has also announced that it will support EXPO.

Specifically, the company announced in a press release that all Z690 and B660 motherboards from Gigabyte EXPO should support. In addition, support is also planned for all future AM5 boards, which cannot yet be named due to the pending presentation of the corresponding chipsets.

However, there is no need to fear segmentation in the RAM market due to Gigabyte’s announcement. According to the company, future AM5 motherboards will continue to support XMP profiles. Users who want to use the integrated RAM profiles therefore do not necessarily have to buy EXPO-RAM.
